Description:
Chardonnay has been grown on the slopes of the Leithagebirge for almost 900 years. The Cistercian monks brought Chardonnay vines from Burgundy around 1150. In the protected southeasterly site of Ried Tatschler, first mentioned in 1570, it ripens to premium quality on calcareous slate soils. Selected, fully ripe grapes are gently pressed and fermented and aged in small oak barrels. Chardonnay Tatschler is a refined, versatile companion.

The Kollwentz Tatschler Chardonnay: Intense greenish yellow; spicy, intense nose of yellow fruits, brioche, vanilla; very well-balanced and finely structured; long on the palate.

The Kollwentz family cultivates the art of wine production and its philosophies in their purest form: our own vineyards, our own grapes, our own wine. We tend and care for 24 hectares of vineyard. Cultivation of the soil and management of the greencover are the twin cornerstones upon which balanced vine-growth is built. Intensive work with the vines – all done by hand – is the key to quality. Only fully ripened and healthy grapes are selectively harvested by hand. We use no botryicides, no insecticides and no herbicides. There is no ‘orange wine’ at the Kollwentz Estate and there are no amphoras. No oak chips are used, and no tannins are added. All white wines, all red wines and all sweet wines are matured in oak casks, for between six to thirty months.
