Gebrüder Steffen Wine

The foundation stone for today's Steffen wine house was laid as early as 1794. The driving force behind this was Peter Steffen from Piesport, who first mentioned the wine house in a document. Around 125 years later, his descendants, the brothers Johann and Peter, set up the wine-growing business, which gave rise to the current name WEINHAUS GEBRÜDER STEFFEN. At that time still as a pure grape producer and farmer, over the decades the company oriented itself more and more towards the wine house. In 1930 the first batch was bottled under the name "1929er Trittenheimer". Putting the 1,000 liters of wine into the bottles was a daring step at the time. Nevertheless, the brothers were able to sell them very successfully in a very short time. So nothing stood in the way of the company's growth. Today Hans Steffen, son Roman and brother-in-law Matthias Dockendorff - run the wine house in the second and third generation. They are of course supported by the entire family as well as long-standing and very committed employees. Although the tasks are relatively clearly distributed, the company sees itself as a modern family business in which the work is mastered collectively "hand in hand". Their style is characterized by full fruit and minerality in the wine, without it being heavy. The wines are particularly exciting thanks to the unusual and Moselle-typical interplay of sweetness and acidity. Riesling in particular feels very much at home in our homeland: With over 60% it dominates the cultivation area of the oldest wine-growing region in Germany and ensures that “our Moselle” is held in high regard in the world. All wines focus on clear fruit and natural minerality in the glass. They are advocates of traditional working methods, but like to interpret them with the latest technology in winemaking. It is always important to taste where the wines come from.
