Chateau Pouget Wine
Château Pouget got its name from
François-Antoine Pouget who took
over the estate in 1748.
The Maréchal-Duc de Richelieu, a
great wine-lover, awarded the
château the coat of arms that still
features on its label to this day.
But it was in 1855 that Château
Pouget really found its place in
the history of the great Bordeaux
wines, when it was admitted as a
4th Grand Cru Classé. The Duke
de Richelieu is at the origin of the
coat of arms and motto of
Château Pouget. «L’amour sur ton
cœur étendra sa puissance. Ton
verbe sera clair comme le chant
du Coq. A l’égal du Lion tu ne
craindras le choc. Si de cestuy
nectar tu te remplis la panse.»
Since 1906, the estate has been
in the hands of the Guillemet
family. Technical director Lucien
Guillemet puts his great
experience into creating a wine
expressing all the beauty of these
gravel soils envied the world over.
He manages Château Pouget with
conviction, but also subtlety.
Château Pouget is the epitome of
Margaux wine, a rarely-found
combination of depth and finesse,
delicious red and black fruit,
grace and style of perfectly ripe
Cabernet Sauvignon.
It is a classic Margaux,
effortlessly combining finesse and
substance. At Château Pouget
particular attention is paid to the
harvesting date, with the aim of
picking grapes that have reached
optimum ripeness. The grapes are
sorted both in the vineyard and at
the winery, and express all the
finesse of this great terroir. |
